Danny Brown hasn’t released a record since 2013’s Old. While he’s kept busy with collaborations with the likes of Clams Casino and The Avalanches, among others, today he returns with a new single and accompanying visual all his own.
The song is titled “When It Rain” and is the first preview into his anticipated upcoming album. The song and video are so clearly products of Brown’s unique artistic vision — the video features inverted colors and static footage of injections, contortionists, and twerking… three things that so clearly go together, right? All the while, Brown is spitting rhymes at a pace so fast the words are nearly indecipherable. Though the handful of words that stand out and can be heard quite clearly are really the only ones that matter: “When it rain/when it pour/ get your ass on the floor.”

Back in January, the Detroit hip-hop artist responded to a fan’s tweet that he too was praying for a 2016 album release and just last week Brown shared a photo on Instagram with the caption, “putting the final touches on my next masterpiece.”
